How Long Was Your Cast?

Also 5-12 weights all of fly line, 100'-130', 2 handed rods around 170' with a complete rod Of Greg B. I have casted a lot of 2 handed rods and have seen the backing knot go out the tip top by 20'-30'.

It's one thing to roll out a deep sunk fly and then to cast but to keep hitting the water I'm with Dime on this, 2 demerits.

A lot of casting experts would disagree. I think I’ll keep doing it as it works and the fish don’t seem to mind.

 
Another hack that doesn't know how to cast, yes water loading is great tool, but after the 1st one you lost the game, try again.
 
Wow, y'all. Harsh.

The point of fly fishing is to throw a lure that's too small to carry monofilament from a spinning reel. Doesn't matter if it's a delicate dry line, a water-loaded shooting head, or a spey cast, if you can get that little artificial food bit to where the fish might eat it by using a weighted line to carry it, it's fly casting. (Arguing that his style of casting "lost the game" when he literally caught a fish on that cast is just bloody nonsensical!)

Furthermore, I took the point of the OP to be "Hey cool - I can measure my cast with Google!" rather than "Look how far I can cast"
 
Very nice fish Mike and congratulations on a great day of fishing Yellowstone. Sorry for the unwanted commentary. There is nothing wrong with water loading while initiating your fly cast.
 
Sage XP 8100-4/ Bauer MZ5 loaded with rio compact rage 330 head, rio metered 32# running line, 8’ poly leader with 4’ tippet. This is lawn casting. River is always tougher. But tippet/poly leader/shooting head/ and 7.5 color strips without really pushing…. Mild hauling. 75+27.5+8+4 = farther than I need 95% of the time. I have to question myself now why do I have this set up? Steelhead but that fishing mission is so deteriorated, at least here in western Washington for the most part.
