How important is thread color?

Fish have very small brains, and so...

Dave Hughes once told me he figured fish look for a reason to eat something, not a reason not to eat it. Which would explain why they ignore the sharpie piece of metal hanging out the butt of a fly and a cable tied on its nose.
Somewhere I read where he wrote that as well, although I think it was worded a bit different, and I take it to heart. I really respect and try to follow his works, its lead to pretty good success.

Kelly Galloup says that for a long time he tied all his nymphs with a maroon thread--if I'm remembering that correctly--so that he could tell his flies from those tied by others by the thread head color. And if that guy was ok with doing that, methinks it doesn't matter much. (Obviously if you were using thread as the material for a portion of the fly, you would probably want to be more specific in color choice, just like you would be with dubbing color.)
