How can I.......

MT-ED

Just Hatched
Greetings, I was going through my equipment and came upon a fly reel spool upon which I wrote:
WF Full Sink VI. I'm pretty sure it is RIO, but some how I neglected to mark what weight line it was?
I've got 2,3,4,5,6, &8 wt rods so I don't know which one this spool is for. Is there any way to find
out what wt. line this might be? Thanks in advance for any and all help!!

Look for marks on the line.. A thicker line usually means 5, so a 5wt!

Weigh the head of the line, get the grain weight and then look at a chart and you will be able to figure out what weight the line is!

Good luck!

Thanks for your prompt reply. Couldn't find any marks on the line...its chocolate brown the entire length. I looked for a line wt. chart, and then got to thinking, the 1st 30ft should weigh the same for full sinking, floating, or what ever, for a specific wt rod. I weighed the 1st 30 ft, checked it against a chart, and then it dawned on me, Ed, why don't you just take the line from a known spool, weigh it and then you'll have it? So, the chart said it should be a 4wt line, so I stripped of 30 ft from a known 4wt spool, weighed it and waalaaa, they weighed the same!!!!! Shazam......I'm confident it is a full sinking 4wt line!! Thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction!!
