I got up to my favorite creek this past Sunday. I've fished it a few times this summer and each time it gets better and better. It's a spot that I typically backpack with my family, but as I did last time, I did it as a day trip. It's a 2 hour drive and a 2.5 mile hike in. It's a relatively popular spot (its under the permit system), but no one really fishes the creek because it's so fast and brushy. I typically bring my 7' 10" 5wt 5 piece glass rod as it helps with the brush and also helps turn fish once they get into fast water. The average fish I caught were between 10-14". Most were rainbows, but the lower I got more cuttbows were showing up. I was on the road at 6, at the trailhead by 8 and rigged and ready by 9. I fished for about 6 hours and was home before dark around 6. These are the days that I'll be dreaming about all winter.
This was the best fish of the day.

Caught here.

Caught with this fat caddis (The fish got to keep the rubber leg).

While hunched in under this bridge on that on old foundation. Roll cast with a some extra line did the trick.

This bronze ish fish was really cool.

Ate this partridge and orange.

Under this tight canopy of vine maple.

I cycled through a few flies but once I landed on the Fat Caddis trailed by the Partridge and Orange, I didnt need to switch the rest of the day. They would take either fly dry or swung, but I think I got the most on the swing. I eventually lost the soft hackle and while I still caught fish on a purple and partridge, it wasn't as good as the orange.
Couple more photos of the fast pocket water.
