Home Audio/Stereo Systems

Had a lashup of various components from guys who were either tired of that gear or were PCS'ing and didn't want to bother shipping it.

A pair of Pioneer speakers, a pair of Klipsch speakers, a TEAC reel to reel, a Kenwood tuner and turntable, and I don't remember who made the equalizer.

@BriGuy is right, the military exchanges in Germany had excellent audio departments. You could go in there and lose a year's worth of paychecks just walking around.

I had my Yamaha CR1000 receiver serviced years ago by Bozotronics (sp?) remember in on Aurora Ave No

Guess the current vernacular is a re-cap? Mine has a lot of toggle switches on it and they started generating static when moved, and a few lights had burned out

How often should a guy have it done?

Had a Denon amp, receiver, and cassette deck, with a Bang and Olufsen turntable which my son still has and uses. While I miss the full sound, I'm not sure I'd trade if for my current setup of four Sonos speakers throughout the house and Spotify. Any song you can imagine, any time, and playlists built for any mood.
That B&O turntable is a classic and worth a $$ today…

During my high school years if I wasn’t saving money for shotguns or fishing gear, I bought stereo equipment and records…I had a Marantz receiver, KLH speakers and a Technics turntable…

I now have a European Audio Team C-Dur turntable, Halo Parasound phono preamp, and a pair of Bang & Olufsen Beolab 50 speakers, which have their own amplifiers in the speakers (1 x 300w for tweeter, 3 x 300w for midrange, 3 x 300w for woofer)IMG_7103.jpegIMG_7102.jpeg

I don’t think the B&O turntables are bringing the money they used to. I think they have become a hard sell because they no longer make the proprietary cartridge and stylus and soundsmith is the only place to source one. $$$
I checked into a refurbished B & O turntable…they wanted $10k…it’s a retro market thing

Yeah I suppose that's who I got the replacement cartridge from several years ago and it wasn't cheap. Well worth it for my son's love of classic music on vinyl.

Always liked stuff like this
Never did get one.

I am soooo happy I did not go the tube route, as @Russell for the reasons describes above in previous posts. Do not get me wrong, I love the sound from tube equipment, just not the upkeep/maintenance. That is why I went with Arcam (English style), a more rounded sound than the metallic sound from more modern stuff. Much of the more modern songs would sound better than on Arcam. Jazz, Blues, Classical, and R&R sounded better on vintage equipment. (Rap does not sound good on any equipment IMHO - LOL).

I truly loved my Phase Linear equipment and should of never gotten ridden of it. (kicking myself in the ass hard!) Bob Carver was a blessing to us in the NW and beyond. First to use transistors rather than tubes - at a very high level. Very innovative for sure.

We were also fortunate to have SpeakerLab. Their Corner Horns were/are amazing and not as much as Klipsch.

Side note: great to have some audiophiles and providing input to help others. It is a small niche, and surprised they are here on PNWFF. Glad they are here and take the effort to share... Thank you!!!

I've always wanted a big Macintosh tube amp back in the day...

Tubes have a life of their own...changing the power tube on a Fender amp changes the sound of your guitar until you get to that sweet half life spot...I assume it's similar on audio equipment.

Tube rolling is definitely a thing on audio gear, another rabbit hole to go into.
A set of MacIntosh tube monoblocks would be perfect for me, but their new hybrid tube/solid state monoblocks are probably a better choice, but the 22k price point is a tad steep

Car speakers are not always very good, so an mp3 file is probably equivalent quality source material to the speakers.

Go the BIG BOZE HEADPHONES root if you're lookin to BLAST the Main Sprakers. Various deals can be had on the BIG BOZE SPEAKERS STERO SYSTEM EQUIPMENT GEAR SALE!!!!

Having had the IDA-8 for years now and finding it a very good value with a small footprint( for you true audiophiles this would be a 'second system', but a very solid one) their new model looks even better...while I don't need the added power, I'd still consider this.
