Hoh River Summer Float

Abrux

Freshly Spawned
Hey all,

New to the forum but have been fishing and rafting for a few years now, mostly east of the cascades and in Oregon. We are staying a week at my parents place at lake cushman in late July, and with the opportunity of free childcare for a night or two, my wife and I would like to do some rafting and fishing on the OP.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience or tips for an overnight trip on the Hoh. I have never floated this river. My thought was the park launch to Allen’s bar. Is this a doable float in late July? Is there a different river you would recommend in the area for the goal? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I’ve been out of the steelhead game a while now, but that should be doable. Due to the lack of snow this year, there might be places you’ll need to drag your boat. The Hoh always has lots of wood so be aware of that as well. Maybe call Waters West in PA and ask them and hopefully others will chime in.

That entire stretch is regularly floated. I recommend pulling in at Oxbow campground and launch site right off of Hwy 101. Walk upstream of the launch site and check out the "S" turn rapid there. It's the trickiest spot on the entire river that I know of. If you're comfortable with that, then you should be good to navigate the entire river.
