NFR Hockey 23/24 Season

Very nice stretch of games they've got going. Was great to see Burakovsky get his first goal of the season, Tatar seems to have been a really solid pickup, and Joey is playing out of his mind.

Joey has been a huge difference maker! In the current 6 game win streak the Kraken have been out shot by more than 50 shots. A team can not survive such an barrage without excellent goal keeping!

Too bad about Conner Bedard. It was only a matter of time before a β€œWelcome to the NHL…” presented itself and as a result its IR time. Keep your head up young man.
Tough to be the best player on a lousy team at 18 yoa and <6’ & <200# in today’s game. It will be interesting to see if the B’hawks wake up as a team or continue to wallow at the bottom. Someone needs to step up.

I’ve heard a lot of folks saying this was inevitable with the changing play styles of new players. Hopefully he makes a speedy recovery and it’s a one off circumstance that others can learn from.

Combination of his style of play, the lack of fighters throughout the league, and the instigator rule.

If Geetzky got hit like that...

Terrific hockey player, had his brother Dennis watching his back. He may have been The Golden Jet but only one player had wings and could fly. Still sucks he retired in Chicago…still sucks he retired.

He was as tough as they come too - growing up on Montreal and being a Canadiens fan, I hated him, but I loved the way he played!!!! No telling what he might have done if he had good knees.

Always so weird to see guys playing without helmets. Seems insane. I get that players are bigger/faster these days than they were back then. But hockey has never been a gentle sport. Getting checked into the boards headfirst was as bad for your brain in 1970 as it is today.

Agree, it is strange though, players were reluctant to put one on, so the NHL had to mandate and grandfather it in. Guy Lafleur wasn't much until he took his off.

In my mid teens I use to caddy for Yvon Cournoyer and Jacques Lemaire lived catty corner to me (yeah, I'm a name dropper) - God I loved that team!!!!!!!

Players, what about goalies. I think Jaques Plante was the first to wear the "Jason mask".

"Cheevers one of the first backstops in NHL history to wear one full time. Montreal netminder Jacques Plante started the trend after being struck in the face at Madison Square Garden in November 1959. Andy Brown, who retired in 1974, was the last North American professional goalie to play without a mask."

Pssst……….Gerry..….if it wasn’t for Sinden he would have retired a Bruin but with fewer Cups πŸ†

To Josh’s point I think the onset of helmet use brought the sticks up especially cross checking upper back and even the helmet. Spearing on the other hand has seemed to diminished. Nothing like a torn ab or broken rib to affect the oxygen intake and slow down the opponent.
