This rod was built in 1927 from what I’ve been able to find. When I got it, the butt section had been snapped off about 6” short. Someone had just mounted the female ferrule onto the broken end.
I had a midsection from a Heddon rod I used to scarf the butt back to length right at where the agate stripper guide sets. I’ve scarfed better than a hundred rods and my scarfs have never failed!
The mid section wraps and finish were in very poor condition so I refinished it with the correct silks. One tip had a rough area so the original finish is scrapped off for about two inches.
After all the work was done I applied four thin coats of spar varnish to the rod. The ferrules all fit good. The butt to mid section ferrule fits good but doesn’t pop like the others. I sized the female ferrule on the butt section because it was slightly loose but it holds tight now. I’m including a picture of how I sized the female ferrule. The jig leaves slight indents on the ferrule but it’s a great way to do a repair on a rod that you otherwise couldn’t use!
A rod like this all original would sell for north of $2,000. I’m asking $800 for this set which with the quality workmanship I did is well worth the value IMHO.
If you want to rod shipped, the shipping is $25 plus shipping insurance whatever that amounts to. I will ship the rod with an Apple Air Tag but will refund the $25 when I can see the Air Tag has been shipped back.
For shipment, I only accept PayPal as payment but if picked up, either cash or Zelle.
If interested contact me through PNW or email me (preferred) at Holdridge.jack1955@gmail.com
