Hip Waders

Hello all! It seems I end buying a new pair of waders every year. Last year's always leak, around the seams, no matter what precautions I take. I don't leave them in sunlight, always hang them up to dry, keep them in a cool dry place over the winter etc.., etc. Is there any type of protective coating I can apply to get more than a year's use out of them? I've bought cheap ones, really expensive ones... same thing every year. Specific brand suggestions? Thanks to all who respond. G.P.

Hip boots by LaCrosse were my standby when I used to use them regularly. Just don't store them folded over, or the rubber will crack and begin to leak at the fold.

I always liked hip waders until I wanted to wade across a spot that was waist deep.
So for a few more $ buy chest waders
And as far as needing a new unleakable pair every year. I guess that is the price you pay for fishing hard or buying a pair that is a little to small.

I have a pair of Allen hip boots from bi-mart. They have held up for several years, although I don't wear them often. I find if I want more than my Barbour rubber boots (just dry feet splashing around the shore) I want full waders, or it's warm enough to go wet. All waders I've owned get leaks, repair with aquaseal.

Dumb question but are the leaks in the same spot for each pair? Could be a fit issue (like crotch seam will leak if waders slide down some so maybe worth going to a longer inseam wader) or if it’s in other seams you could try to reinforce the outside of the seam with aquaseal in advance of an issue

With hip waders it doesn't matter if the seams leak, because you're going to wade in over the top before the day is out and fill them with water anyway. I had a friend who said the first time he heard the expression "wading wet," he just thought that meant wading with hip waders.

x2 for La Crosse if not having to hike much...my go to when swinging for King's in tidewater from the shallows..pretty nice to just kick off the shoes, slip them on and have at it...
