I’m a bit delayed in posting this as it was a couple weeks ago, but for a retired guy I seem to always have something I have to do. Anyway, with temps in the high 80’s and low 90’s I haven’t fished my local C&R lake in a while, not wanting to stress the fish. So, I packed up the Cruzer and headed up to “The Park”. I had heard that Lewis Lake was a pretty good fishery, so that was my destination. After getting my boat permit (yes even float tubes are considered a boat in Yellowstone) and water craft inspection I headed down to Lewis. It was much larger than I had anticipated and the wind had picked up some by the time I got to the launch area. It was a bit choppy but there were other tubers on the lake and I hadn’t come all this way not to fish. The shoal area near the shore south of the ramp was producing a massive hatch and the Yellowstone cutties were small but willing. I hadn’t brought a extra rod with a floating line, just a reel and I didn’t want to take the time to swap it out. So, I managed a few by casting and fast stripping my sink line. Moving out a bit further from shore there was a nice drop off and it produced some nice browns. After about 3 hours of fun, I headed back in for the drive home. I definitely will come back, get an earlier start and spend more time trying different areas of the lake.

A little choppy, but beautiful scenery.
Nice Yellowstone cutthroat.

If you zoom in you can see all the mayflies

Browns

Can’t go to Yellowstone without a bison pic!
