It’s still been pretty warm here so I wanted to head to the mountains again for some fishing. I had been talking to a gal that works at one of the local shops about my trip to Beartooth Lake a couple years back and she recommended trying Lily Lake. It’s in the same area of the Beartooth mountains, smaller in size and a bit less of a drive. She said it had smaller fish but less fishing pressure because it’s not right on the hwy. So I packed up the Cruzer and headed to Lily. The dirt road in was rough but not terrible and I had the lake pretty much to myself, with only a family of paddle boarders coming in as I was leaving. I took my 3wt. and it was the perfect rod for this lake. I found that the deeper water just off of weed beds was the most productive for the morning. I fished from around 9 until noon and stayed busy with eager cutties in the 10-12 inch range. Even managed a couple grayling but they were pretty small, 6 & 8 inches.

Great scenery.

Lots of hungry Cutties.
