Was stripping back an emerger pattern on a midge tip line a few weeks ago when I see a big brown jump over the point in my line where the float section transitions to clear intermediate, about 20' from my fly. It was moving right to left so I mutter 'hang a right..' at it when I get a huge grab that pulls me out of my shoes and leads to landing the fish below. It's the same size and shape as the leaping fish.
So now I'm wondering, is this the same fish that leaped over my line? Am I the fish whisperer commanding them with my voice and will? Or, is it just coincidence -- 2 different fish the same species, size and shape; one a jumper one a biter. I'm heading back tomorrow to do some research and practice more fish-whispering.
