My buddy, that lives in Alaska, clued me into the modern world of hand warmers. USB rechargeable, about $30 and they lasts all day. These things are a game changer !! They are about the the size of a flip phone. These things gets super hot. I have been simply dropping this thing down my shirt, so that it is against my skin against my belly, with my belt to stop it from going down further. The benefit of this incredibly powerful heat source ,,, placed inside all of your layers, fleece, puffy jacket, Grundens etc CAN NOT be over stated. It's like having a heating blanket under your clothes!!!

I totally agree, I have recharged mine countless times and it still works great. Makes me wonder how I ever got by without it.
 
I got a pair on Black Friday and just used it. Damn thing gets really hot! It can heat on both sides and has 4 power levels but I kept it at 1 and only one side. Really nice to have in the pocket when swinging flies.
 
+1. Slim, lightweight, rechargeable, adjustable heat range and oh so handy! What's not to like? And like Yard, I find that level 1 and one side only is plenty warm.

Same here. Right up there with the best $30 I've ever spent on fishing gear. I do the same thing you do, put in an inside wader pocket on a low setting and it lasts most of the day. Been thinking about getting a second one and keeping it in the dry bag so I can have a fresh one after lunch on the really cold days.

Would love to know which one you got. I like the sound of the both-sides heat.

Ok I'm old school. Zippo 12hr handwarmer. Gotta keep it in the pouch or it's too hot to handle. Thermometer inside the pouch reads 120°. In the pouch it doesn't feel that warm from the outside. Once lit it can be positioned at any angle, meaning you can throw it in any pocket and you'll be good. No noticeable odor. Can be used indoors.

Good thread thanks for the suggestions. Tried a rechargeable one a few years back and it didn’t work, used the disposable and never got around to getting a replacement. Will need to pick one up, thanks.
 
Been using them and giving as gifts for about 10 years. (Hand warmers, not the socks) Prefer the Ocoopa(sic) brand.

Cool! I mean warm! I've been looking into this actually, either these warmers or heated fingerless gloves. I think I'll give it a try, something to warm my hands during the freezing winter boat runs to the fishing grounds would be nice.
Has anyone tried something like this over nitrile?

a good combo with the hand warmer is donning 7mm nitrile gloves which offers plenty of dexterity, helps keep the chill off, and the hand warmer heats right through them. And will also be test driving a pair of Snowbee thin neoprene gloves tomorrow, see if they displace the nitrile.

Yes. I think anyway. There are a bunch on Amazon that are very similar. Worked great! Be sure to get ones with at least 4-5000 ma batteries. They are bulky synthetic matterial.
Costco had some a couple years ago that are higher quality merlino wool for $99 but with too small batteries and wouldn’t make it through a morning. Returned them and got the Amazons. Now the Costco ones are the way cheaper and do last all day. I happen to like the little remote button it now comes with. Saves another dang app on the phone. I usually only use the button to turn on when I get out and off back at the truck.
Love those, but especially love the heated sock

PS this fall I found one of the Amazon sock batteries swelling and splitting. What do you do with a lithium battery that’s exploding??
