Hail Marys sometimes connect...even with capr

I had some time this morning to kill, so what better way to spend it prior to the family waking up than checking out some potential early season carp spots.

1st spot = bust. Too high (and cold). 2nd spot = bust. Also too high (also too cold)....nearly got taken out by several logs.

3rd spot....nearly taken out by a train. But I persevered. Sometimes ya gotta throw that Hail Mary...some dozen fish later....

Nothing huge, but a decent number in the 3-6lb range (most were in that 3-4lb range with one a little larger).

not here....but didn't look super hard. There were spots out there that looked fine, but I'll bet it's still a little early based on temps (unless you've unlocked that under 50 degree secret, because I haven't....I'm basically a one trick wonder when it comes to smallies...prespawn only.

Are you referring to that Mr. Mock guy? Love his videos and info, but he's not even the original "CarpOnTheFly" guy. That distinction belongs to John Montana. That said, I dunno that I'd be anywhere close to the OG "Capr on the fly"....got a search the ole Westfly archives for that (except they only exist in some of our minds at this point).
 
I was, but you're right. Where the heck is John these days? I haven't seen anything online or social media for a while now. Hope it's good stuff like raising kids and having fun... including still catching carp.
 
Still catching, never telling. (I don't blame him!)

Ryan's videos are really great. Really informative without him having to really explain anything (even though he often does go into detail)

A great many people have quit the whole social media thing the past few years.

Capr auto-rec engaged!

I was always a big Montana capr guy. Had him come to Eugene and do a presentation to our fly club long ago. Hope he is well. One of my regrets on moving to Bend is no capr :confused:
