I was given a couple dozen old, no-name, production bamboo fly rods by the owner of a fly shop. The quality wasn't good for fishing but a friend of mine cut one down for me and put a rubber tip on the end and it makes a classy walking stick or wading staff. I took my new walking stick and a 7' Tom Fulk 5 weight out to walk a logging road to a small stream to swing some coachmen wet flies. The cutthroat were cooperative.

Sharpes and Farlows used to sell bamboo wading staffs.
