In his 1964 book Adventures in the Northwest, Edson Dow talks about fishing lots of east cascades creeks including Anges Creek, Bridge Creek, Icicle Creek, Ingalls Creek and Jack Creek. I took my Granger 8040 4 weight and an old Sharpes Gordon reel up one of these streams today.

Was hoping to fish dries but it was slim pickings until I switched to a size 12 Hares Ear bead head. A three foot furled leader, small tuft of yellow polypro yarn and 3 feet of 4lb maxima did the trick for small rainbows in the pocket water.

Three hours of rock-hopping tired me out and it was time to head home with a stop for a huckleberry milkshake. Enjoy the woods while you can before the fires come.
