fun session at 6400', handful of bow's slamming a presented beetle right off the shoreline....stop, cast to likely holds, either hookup or move to the next stop. Had a big brown take me for quite the tug fest before breaking off on the 5x...got see him a few times, and he was a bruiser. He's now outta luck, I know here he lives..lol

Well done... What beetle pattern is that? Were the callibaetis coming off yet
pattern a simple home brew...folded iridescent foam with a orange post and strands of purple/red flash on a 10 hook.
Went to beetles yesterday because it was the first day in several weeks the Callibeatis weren't coming off regularly, which has been my go to using a 16 Rickards style nymph with 5' intermediate tip, most of the takes on the strip pause when the nymph drifts down...had to wait a bit at the ramp for some loading, so took a few casts in the shallows with same and hooked a feisty leaper...they've been taking it deep so barbless and careful extraction a must.

What does the underside look like?

also has some purple Krystal dubbing on the bottom..last one from a bunch tied five years ago when we moved up to the mountains and experienced my first beetle hatch.. foam for the next batch has a tad more green..metallic shimmer on the bottom does seem to have advantage over all black in clearer water. A flyfisher I occasionally share the shore with applies red nail polish liberally to the top of his ties so he can spot them easier, claims it doesn't seem to bother the biters.
still waiting for my phone to give up the ghost so I can purchase one with a better camera...
