NFR Got any mammal pictures

Non-fishing related
That's a right handsome buck!

Well…I kind of have some mammal pics…🙄

I’m currently in Vermont hanging out with my dad. I’ve gotten in a short hike the last couple mornings and I came upon these two mounds shortly into the first hike

Shit, oh dear! (literally🤪)

I’m no scatologist but I’m guessing they were dropped within the previous 12 hours. Both were ambient temperature and there had been some heavy rain prior to that.

I sure had my head on a swivel and was singing some bear songs while continuing with the hike.😎

Since then, I’ve seen 3 blacks….crazy…. Two yesterday while driving the back roads with my dad and today, one walked under his balcony while we were out enjoying the sun.

Sheese, I haven’t seen a bear in WA in years.

Since then I’ve read that WA has nearly 3X the population but VT has a higher population density.

Next time out I’ll bring some honey and try to get some Yellowstone/Bisonesque bear shots 👍

Mother Goddess.png

Interesting finding. One of them resembles an early human mother goddess figure.

My daughter is a biologist working with a conservation/outdoor education nonprofit in San Diego. On one of their conservation workcrews the other day she spotted this ex-bat impaled on a cactus. The bio team was trying to decide if maybe it just had an unfortunate crash, or if it was the victim of a loggerhead shrike (which impale their prey for leverage and storage)
The ants make it look like it was a revenge killing 😬

While sitting and having lunch on our Grand Valley hike the other day, this doe casually walked between me and my hiking partner, who was only 30 feet away. They must encounter enough humans to recognize that we are no threat inside park boundaries PXL_20260816_185636185.jpgPXL_20260816_185713563.jpg

That is one hat rack Mulie!
