Nah, although it was my first thought. But I found two others, so ended up giving each of my kids a feather.

The smoke was so thick last weekend that it made some of my pics appear to be black and white. 
Wired my boring piddock clam fountain head to prevent it being knocked off by raccoons or stolen by hoodlums
Gray light so might as well go black and white

Unfortunate PSA for bird feeder owners.
I asked our resident bird authority @Cabezon about what might be affecting this poor fledgling junco. Sadly this little guy was found dead in our garden yesterday.
I was informed Avian Pox was the likely pathogen. While not contagious to humans, we followed the instructions to clean and disinfect the feeder, and adjacent surfaces with a 10% bleach solution.
Feeder will also be offline for 2 weeks. Already getting complaints from the clientele. Fortunately I dont understand nuthatch cussing, but it doesnt sound friendly.
Note: The deck is a functional work in progress. Proper code worthy posts/rails are next.

Hiking in the Olympics the other day and had a ball watching these guys chasing grasshopper in the alpine. They did not care that I walked with 5 feet of them on the trail. Saw about 20 on the day.

Been close or at triple-digit temperatures the last couple of days. The local osprey has taken to coming in and for a bath and drink. It's funny, never seen this before in 20+ years of watching the water. Bird doesn't stay in the water long, and keeps a wary lookout the whole time. The hook on the beak and the the crazy talons stand out.
