Good news…..Bad news!

Here in Wyoming, Mother Nature sets the date of the lakes “opener” for me and not Game & Fish, as pretty much all our stillwater is open 24/7, 365. Because I don’t include a sled and ice auger as part of my lake fishing equipment, I have to wait for ice off. With some milder temps recently, I thought I would head over and check out a hike in C&R lake that is usually one of the first to loose its ice. The good news is it was completely ice free and higher than I have seen it in the spring. The bad news is that the temps are going to drop again for a few days, snow is predicted and the wind has been steady at 20-25 mph. Hopefully, later in the week it will mellow out and I can finally hit the water.

Steve, that lake looks like it could get real cold for the fisherman!
It sure does Jeff. The last day I fished it in the fall, the surface temp was 38 deg. It puts out some nice fish though. I had several 18+ ”footballs” there last fall. I’m hoping they wintered well and will be super hungry this spring. Here’s a typical one from last year.
