It was a gloomy day yesterday on a western WA lake with heavy overcast, drizzle, rain and cold. The water was 44 to 45 degrees, but clear with about 8' of visibility. Fortunately there wasn't much wind, but in this flat water I only saw one fish rise.
Many of the rainbows in this lake are very heavily spotted, like the one above. They almost all fought quite well, even with the cold water temperatures.
There were two motorboats and three pontoon boats out on the water, but I don't know how they did. They all seemed to be mostly trolling over deeper water, whereas I was casting and stripping near shore in shallower water, and finding most fish in the 4 to 6 foot depths.
