Glass, Grass, and Bass

I snuck out first thing for a quick solo trip at a local ditch early this morning...

I thought I'd see if I could put a few bass on a bamboo rod that I've had for years (funny/notsofunny story, I was going to sell it a number of years ago, fished it one last time & broke it doing something stupid right near the ferrule on the bottom section, got that fixed so now it's kind of a 6.5wt vs a 6wt--or at least casts a 7wt line really well). At any rate, it's a 7'10" now and actually was quite nice.

I threw topwater for a bit on my Berkley Gowdy 7'6" 6/7 but no eaters despite a handful of fish busting the surface on something that I couldn't see.

Fortunately, there were a few willing fish including this absolute tank of a fish....the camera angle makes it look far smaller than it was...I mean, it was yuuuuuge!

All told, I ended up with a half dozen fish ranging in size of the mini fish above up to a 10"er (pretty good sized for this stretch of ditch, so I was happy with that).

oh yeah, stupid hook keepers.....keeping hooks and stuff!

If that's one of your usual flies in its mouth, that must be a 10 lb fish right there!
;)
probably a state record!!

But I don't need my name in the record book, so I released it in hopes that some kid manages to catch it & get their name in the book.

Nice report, but…..where is the ass? ;)
