"Glass for flats" Hatch mag

How slow? Like, fiberglass slow. Soft, supple rods that’ll slow down my cast and, should I be lucky enough, really enhance a fight with a bonefish.

Don’t scoff. Glass is a gas, bruh.

I keep tryin' to tell people....

plus, it's not just limited to flats. glass is fun for tuners, glass is fun for muskers, glass is fun for caprs, glass is fun for well, damn near everything.

If slow action glass is your thing then yes! You should totally take your glass rod on your bonefish trip. It’s not my thing, I just don’t really like casting glass rods, but I always take a medium fast 4 weight with me on bonefish trips. I have caught a whole heap of bones on it too, and had more fun catching them than I would have with a more normal bonefish rod. Some of them, tailing in shallow calm water, I simply would not have caught on a heavy rod. Just make sure that you also have that fast action 8 weight for when the wind is up!

Honestly though, I think that article does a complete disservice to what modern glass is all about and the variability of the actions available (not to mention the actual weight). It would be the same if an article came out about graphite and labeling all them as tomato stakes.

oh man, a lightweight rod for some inshore stuff sounds like a blast!

To your point though, There's a reason I typically will have at least one relatively fast action rod (usually a 9 or 10) with me on salty trips....plus a spinning rod now, if there's room.

I have grown a metric shit ton of tomatoes, and can verify the efficacious nature of graphite for use as a staking material.

Can confirm!
I brought my 8wt Echo Bad Ass Glass Quickshot to Christmas Island just for kicks, and ended up fishing it almost the entire time because it was so fun!
Plus, it looked nice in tropical beach pics, all glowy turquoise in the sun

It's funny how glass goes from the "fun" to the main rod. That's how my obsession started. I still keep a few graphites (only 5wt and up), but they're the backups to the backups.

exactly! Last trip to Baja, just about the only rod I used (outside of the spinning rod I took) was just my NFC IG 8+ wt...

Shoot, even my primary musky rod is glass.
