General location recommendations for SRC-centered sound trip?

Not asking for specific beaches and tides here, (unless you want to share!), but if one was to make a trip up to the sound to fish for SRC/Coho, what would be a good town to stay in and area to focus on? South Sound? Hood Canal? Also, what time of year?

I’d stay in Tacoma. Lots of lodging and restaurant options and you can go easily go south on I-5 from there or west on 16.
Late Sept or early Oct depending on what marine areas are open for coho.
