NFR Flyover at the Superbowl

Grew up on AF Bases…
F-4 Phantom @ George
U-2, C-4, B-52 @ Davis-Monthan

Loved watchin’ ‘em taxi, take off, fly around, and land.
U-2s were close enough to the ground to read the lettering…we were in their landing path.
Same here. I loved seeing the F-4s flying around George AFB and Ramstein Air Base when I was growing up. Saw lots of other aircraft, but those Phantoms were so badass.

It's cool that the pilots are women. Can't say I like hearing those jets, though. The EA-18G Growlers (and the F-18s that used to fly over one of my VT fishing holes) are insanely loud.
One of the four is an F-35, they are much louder than the F-18’s, despite being a single engine as opposed to the 18s twin engines.

I did this for almost 8 years. I loved the smell of JP4 in the morning... 😉

And you know that young A1C with the cap on the flightline @ 4:12 looks real familiar... 😚

The J75 engine in the "Six" didn't have a staged afterburner like the F4 and later jets. When the pilot brought it up to full military power and kicked throttle over to 'burner to start the takeoff roll it immediately pumped fuel into the exhaust at full pressure, and there was a terrific BOOM! Boy that was loud...
I loved it!

Sometime between 70-73. I was around 8-11 years old. If you were around that age, we probably rode our Stingray bikes together. I stll remember the street address: 148 Oregon Street.

I grew up on (& in often) Agate Passage, and have Suquamish roots going back to before1920. My parents were both in the Marine Corps (Dad a lifer), and they both passed 16 and 12 years back. Both requested their ashes to be scattered in Agate Pass, so finally 7 years ago Liz, the girls and I boated over from Seattle and held a champagne picnic service for them drifting with the tide. As I dumped their urns, exactly on cue, two vintage B 25 bombers made a low pass directly overhead. I have never seen (or heard) that before or since, but it couldn’t have been scripted better.
How fitting. Some things can’t be explained.
