FLY TYING EQUIPMENT

My name is Diane Stephens. I am Roger Stephens' surviving spouse. Those who knew Roger know that he was an avid fly fisherman. Over the many years he amassed an enormous amount of fly tying equipment. I am looking for a teenager who has a genuine passion for tying flies, but who cannot afford to purchase all the equipment, who I can gift everything to.. Believe me, there is a lot! I don't want to give it to just anyone, as I would love to see them carry on a legacy. This was Roger's true love. I contacted the Boys & Grils Club, but to no avail. I figured your group might know of people. If you know of someone, please contact me at rdstephens@comcast.net. Maybe they could write something up about themselves, which you could send as well. Someone would need a truck to pick everything up, as there is a fly tying table, plus rolling cabinets and boxes. Thank you for your assistance.

Wow, thank you Dianne. You have had a magnificent idea that will live on. Again, thank you.

Diane, I just sent you an email and suggested the Mayfly Project and Project Healing Waters and included the links for you.

Let us know if you need any help.

Since Diane is offering so much more than some fly tying materials, with the tying table, cabinets, and boxes, perhaps a suitable teen would be found among the many graduates of the youth fly fishing academy.

I love this idea, and that so many of you have thought of The Mayfly Project!
TMP is a great organization. However, maybe not the best one for this particular donation, sadly.
The kids we work with are foster children; meaning that many of them don't have a permanent home or certainty about their futures, and therefore no way to really "own" that much stuff.
I mean, not too many established adults can devote a roomfull of stuff to a hobby!

I don't want to speak for all of TMP, though - it's possible that the national office knows of kids aging out of the system that might be a good fit for what Diane would like to see to carry on Roger's legacy.
I went ahead and sent a link to this thread to one of the head honchos to see if they have any candidates to suggest.

One other suggestion I have might be to reach out to colleges/universities with Fisheries programs? Those might have more young people who already have a more established dedication to fly fishing & tying, but few personal resources.
There must be some alumni on this forum!

What a beautiful tribute to pass on his things! I love the idea of donating to the Academy.

If it doesn't work, or there are things they don't take, I would be happy to help give some of it a good home. I currently have two high school students in my classes who have gotten into fly tying, one of whom has gotten into fly fishing this year. Both are free-or-reduced lunch, so are rather limited in budgets and have been working with my hand-me-downs or a few things I've bought for them.
