Fly Line Repair

I bought a new fly line last week, and today, after just one previous outing I noticed some tears in the casing.

Can these be repaired? I had a thought to try some UV cure resin in very thin layers.

Any advice that doesn't include spending another c-note would be appreciated!

Take or send it back. Unless you did something wrong, you shouldn’t have to deal with it.

How you been? We should hit the deschutes again.
Nice to hear from you!

The line isn't at fault. I started bank fishing at a local lake as an alternative to floating when the wind is up, and the shore is covered with very sharp pieces of broken shale. It has been very difficult to keep stripped line from getting caught in it. Despite my efforts to not try and pull it free, the sharp edges have taken their toll.

I've "mended" a few cracks/tears; I stretch the line between two points and then carefully wrap the affected area with tying thread and then coat with Knot Sense. It's not perfect but does seem to old up. I don't know how these repairs affect castability (I'm not a great caster so I can't tell any difference). I did the technique on a new to me intermediate line with hot orange thread as a "hang marker".

You might think about adding a stripping basket to your quiver! ;-)
