Floating phone case?

Just wondering if anyone uses a floating phone case when fish from a floating device like a float tube. Since the phone has become the camera of choice and dropping overboard would be more of a pain than just replacing a camera. I always have a bit of uneasiness when taking pics while out in the middle of the lake.

My phone is waterproof, so I am just worried about it sinking out of sight. I experimented with various stretchy cages until @Northern gave me a cool tool. It has a wide tab that fits inside the cell phone case with a little attachment point that sticks out of the charging hole on the case. Like this one:

I hadn't thought about tethering my phone case to either myself of my packraft/float tube.
I had thought about tethering it to a float. Kind of like the ones for boat keys.
Here's a link to floating case, which is more what I was thinking about.

I had an IP68 waterproof phone that was waterproof until it wasn't. A slip and a quick dunk in 2 feet of water killed it. I now use an IP68 waterproof phone case in addition to the phone's rating. The security fingerprint "film" sticker quickly stopped working but it only takes a couple of seconds to swipe and enter the PIN. The waterproof phone cases typically have a couple of small holes in one lower corner to pass a wrist strap through. I pass a short length of 20# backing through it and make a small loop to clip it to a neck lanyard, or a safety cord attached to something I am wearing, or floating in.

I use a tab similar to Zack’s, from outxe. I hook it to a strap that goes around a wader strap or around my neck

I've ruined two phones dunking in saltwater, both "supposedly" in waterproof cases. The only foolproof waterproof case I trust now is the console of my truck when I'm fishing.
Saltwater + phone = instant electrolysis

Is there any real reason to carry an expensive phone with you onto, and into the water? With all the doodads you see attached to the human fisher person, what’s the purpose of one..more…gizmo?
Expecting a call from Lee Wulff, Lefty Kreh? Need to check your vm? Dump that SPCX stock that you were able to grab at @ $198.62? Pick up a half gallon, excuse me, a 2 liter container of Oatmilk on the way home?
C’mon…now. Leave your Binky home, or stashed, live on the edge, compete with nature on a level field. Prove to yourself you belong Mano a Mano with nature. Cut the connection. You can do it.
Pictures (images) or it didn’t happen issue? Buy a $100 water proof digital-camera. Protect your personal history device. Leave it home, or safely hidden. Nothing more like being surrounded by nature with deafening silence and watching that perfect drift winding its way along that back eddy when….when….a swirl??????

Good point. I finally realized the pic I took of a fish 10 years ago looks suspiciously similar to the one I took last year.....
They could be related....;)

All three states I have fishing license for are on apps on my phone . Yesterday on a put in on the Madison got checked for license ,just brought it up on my phone . Last year out on my pontoon boat ,warden in a boat , got checked for license , same thing ,handed him my cell phone with the license on it . Just too many things nowadays to leave a phone behind . I carry my cell phone , ID ,and a credit card if the situation calls for it ,no wallet to worry about or paper copies of fishing license , or trying to keep things waterproof , if the phone gets ruined so be it . Supposedly my I phone is water resistant but not completely waterproof . Have yet to test it out . not greatly concerned .

As far as dropping it in the water if worried , as posted on here a lanyard sounds like the best solution , or a good waterproof floating case .

I looked at everything for tethering options and went with the OtterBox Sole case. I thought I'd hate the finger strap and would just attach it for fishing. Instead I fell in love with it right away and now would not live without it. That thing has a lot of uses, and can anchor to either lower corner...or easily remove if not your thing.

My PFD has a coiled lanyard that clips to the phone strap. The case also has a camera control button that bypasses the passcode. In under a second I can grab and start shooting.

These came out for the 17 but I know there are similar options for other phones.

Exactly why I still have and occasionally use an old school (can't believe I'm calling it old school) digital pocket sized camera. One that doesn't make phone calls.

From the looks of things, it doesn't take pictures either...
😁

Screen shots of your license(s) off your cell phone, print to scale on phone, laminate, placed in glassine envelope (narc talk 😉for zip lock bag) placed in slide zip pocket, vest or chest pack.
Weight: 15/20 grams vs phone +/- 250 grams
Buoyancy: Z/L Bag: + Phone: ——— slightly neg
Cost: ZL Bag et al: $10 maybe. Phone: Somewhat 😢 higher depending on model

Cost of phone does not include “insurance for the life of the phone” that’s a knee slapper itself. Try to prove you didn’t just drop it but dropped in 62’ of water. Hmmmm.

I know you fish quite often, for legit reasons, out of your pontoon boat…..wait one,…my bad..on, I repeat on your pontoon device (off is not good) so you may have a secure area to hold said POIDH device.
C’mon Up, unburden yourself of all not needed devices. Release your spirit so it can live free. You can do it.
The water beckons. It doesn’t need to be polluted by more man made devices. Open your mind to the vistas available to us by nature. We’ve already done enough harm to nature, haven’t we? Don’t steal the spirit of that 28.62” 8.34 lb Cutthroat by capturing an image and sharing it with the world. Think of the trout’s embarrassment when his kids see him on the interweb and he has to explain why, why this happened.

All in jest my friend, if it feels good, Do It.

I saw an add for a device that is a tether for your phone. It has a silicone (looks like si) stretchy part that goes over your phone case. Then it has a coiled tether that looks like an old school phone cord. This clips/pins to your clothing somewhere. Keeps you from dropping it in the drink. I'll see if I can find it again. It was on Instagram.
