SFR Floaters...Is There An Eye Doctor In The House?

Sorta fishing-related

Somewhat fishing related but I have eye floaters that have advanced beyond annoying. Days like today with snow on the ground and an overall light
background are really stressful be it driving or many other activities. I just had an eye exam and other than the floaters my vision hasn't changed in the past 2 years, no cataracts, glaucoma, etc. In researching vitreous floaters I found that surgery is basically a last resort butcame upon a laser treatment as a surgical option that looks promising. Has anyone had this procedure and what were your results?

Not a doctor but went into an eye surgeon this last month just for this reason. After a review and discussion, I am able to just put up with it, fortunately.

He indicated if it got worse and very bothersome, he recommended draining the fluid in the eye and replacing it with saline (?) solution.

Get a great doctor and have open discussions about options. Glad I did...

My eye doctor performed a cold laser procedure on an eye of mine last week to address a cataract implant lens issue and afterwards we discussed my floaters. He utilizes 'YAG laser vitreolysis' to address floaters, with a success rate of around 70%. If my floaters reached the point that they were interfering with my vision vs just being an annoyance, I would go the YAG route myself.

Exactly what my Dr told me he was going to after my cataract/toric lens op last November. Left eye result was not as “even” is the description he used. Have floaters in the left eye only. Said he could clean it up using the YAG process. He, the Doc, likes to wait 4-6 months post op to do any additional work as everything has settled down after surgical eye trauma.

Thanks, I've lived with it for quite a few years but have reached the 'very bothersome' point. From the research I've done the surgical options sound pretty risky and should be avoided unless absolutely necessary but the YAG process sounds promising. I'm definitely going to look into it. Thanks to all who have had the process and responded.

Many times eye floaters are actually worms in your eyes. Gross as that is, it is quite common. If it were me, I would try a treatment of Ivermectin before considering surgery.

Dang...I wouldn't have believed that there was such a thing. Rare, but there was this case in India.

I did some research on the YAG process in my area and found this informative video if anyone is interested.
This video was an eye opener for me (sorry if that sounds like a bad pun). I had retina surgery a few years ago to remove scar tissue that appeared over time. A year after recovery I had cataract surgery in that eye but because of the retina surgery, the process to remove the cataract took nearly an hour. Then I developed floaters and the surgeon had me come in and did this laser process that I didn't know the name of but it was exactly what I saw in the video. He said I would hear a few clicks and they would be gone. It took only a couple minutes, totally painless, and the difference was just amazing. The original retina surgery was an odd experience. I was out for the first 5 or so minutes and had been told that when I came to I would be awake for the rest of the procedure and warned not to talk. So for an hour I laid there with my head taped down to a table and listened to the surgeon talking to the attending anesthesiologist. For that hour all they talked about was fantasy football. On the follow up exam my surgeon explained everything he had done and the favorable results after which he asked me if I had any questions. Yeah, how did your quarterback do last Sunday? Got a chuckle. As for my eye, so far so good.

yeah, rare is quite different than "many times"....as opined by tunaball

If it were me, the last place I would be looking for advice for things such as this would be a fishing forum board and the first place I'd be looking for advice on things such as this would be my optometrist and go from there.

You got two eyes. Therefore, you got two shots to get it right.

Yes, an optometrist will be my next step but I really appreciate the life experiences and positive outcomes that have been shared here.
