Float Tube Opinions

OK, I'm ready to roll. Bought a used fish cat 4, my flippers arrived, took my NFC 10ft, 6# off of the classifieds (f-it, nobody wants it, I'll use it) and tied up a bunch of flies. Monday maiden voyage....Thank you all for your generous help...
I think you'll find it's a lot of fun, hope you find some fish too. Every trip will go better as you get used to what works for you. Little things like don't stick a second rod out your casting side, stripping apron in relation to PFD, is there a strap or buckle that likes to grab your shooting fly line, flybox right side or left, best net place, where's my drink?

Monday maiden voyage....hit a local Lacey lake for my first outing. Got six total, 4 cookie cutter planters and 2 nicer trout. Started of trolling a micro leech with hares ear dropper. Couple strikes. Realized it was too much work so I anchored off shore 100 ft. Cast into shore and slow retrieve back. Worked better than trolling. Changed to Pheasant tail soft hackle and game was on. Caught most of them on the raise up. Just held the rod up at the end for a minute and they jumped on. Cool...Thanks again for all your pointers....

I vote Outcast super fat cat and skip the oars. I’ve had one for over 10 years and it just keeps floating.

Wish someone would reintoduce the original Woods River Gliderider/Stealthrider design and make them once again...since the Wildnerness lite backpacking model is based on it, pinged them to see if they were interested in making a more robust version like the original...not. Love to have one for quick forways into the Quinn Channel and SE corner of East Lake in the evenings.

I found the fish cat 4, unused on Marketplace, for cheap. Being 225# I would have liked a Fat Cat but think this cat 4 works fine. What has made a big difference, is adding another 1" thick pad under the seat. There is alot of room there for it and doesn't seem to add any stress. It's helped by riding me higher and seems to help keep the tubes separated better.

No matter whose boat you use I recommend a pad of closed cell foam of some sort that is soft yet firm. This is like a heating pad and makes a huge difference in cold water.

For you older guys I also endorse an oval cuttout in said pad. This is referred to as the Prostate Relief Zone.

I’ve been impressed with the Outcast line. My little “quickie boat” (Outcast Discovery Trek) has became unrepairable, so I just picked up a Fish Cat Cruzer. I’ll post up a report after I get some water time in it.

Steve, that looks like a vinyl pool toy! You be careful now, you hear?

They were out of stock of the alligator and pink flamingo so I had to go with that model. I put it together yesterday and hope to get it on the water Friday or Monday. Don’t usually fish the weekends, especially during busy months. It looks pretty sturdy, I do prefer the HR style valves over the Boston valves this has, but I haven’t had any problems with the Boston‘s I’ve had on other boats, just easier to fill.

Go with one of those soft toilet seats and all one's nether region needs could be met on lake! 🤣

I'm sure the Scotty folk can come up with a universal mount TP holder (perhaps combined with a fishfinder mount?)!

SIMM's could even market a set of gortex 'Road Warrior' wading chaps to facilitate ease of use. I oughta be in marketing.
