When I was into serious free diving spear fishing, our dive buddies would have the discussion about what to do if one of us experienced “shallow water blackout” and sank beyond our breath holding ability…and where to shoot on your body in order to attempt to save someone’s life. Shooting the fins was out,,,most likely it would glance off and not penetrate. Main body shot was the easiest target, but would probably result in penetrating a vital organ. Lower leg shot like the calf would be safest, but a small target (you would only get one shot, and the larger spearguns we carried would add 16-18 feet of reach)…we all decided a thigh shot would be best and pray you didn’t hit the femoral artery.
