I have a buddy who’s down in Baja right now. He speared a few fish and he was wondering if I knew what the big one was. I have no clue but offered up to post on the forum.

21” and speared in Bahia De Los Angeles in the sea of Cortez. Any idea?

Does look like a mullet. Perhaps a striped mullet?

The various mullets are typically characterized by having two dorsal fins. I'm only see one in the photo though it does look like a mullet.

I agree with striped mullet. The first dorsal can retract and become difficult to see, especially with a slightly ventral perspective. You can see this even in live fish in this image. There are other species of mullet in the Sea of Cortez, but the striped mullet has a black spot at the base of the pectoral fin, as in this picture.

Sobalo, locally. The guide would only handle them with a rag as the slime was pretty nasty.
