Looks like Joe is trying to get the business going again.`

These on and off again businesses have no chance in my opinion no matter how good their products are. There are already enough unreliable suppliers that retailers have to deal with. There are lots of hook manufacturers the ones most able to supply product are the ones you keep.

Nothing against firehouse but you HAVE to be a reliable supplier.

I was pretty bummed when they went to distributing to shops only, but I can understand how losing your wife would throw a wrench in the works. They're my favorite hooks, I hope they can get going again or at least sell the business to someone who an maintain it

Thanks @Mike Cline - I really like several of Firehole's hook styles and was bummed when they disappeared from stock.

I haven't used Firehole products but my heart truly goes out for this small business owner (or anyone for that matter) that has had an unforeseen personal tragedy like this , and hope that their core Customer base will support them.

Exactly…
Had a similar discussion with a guy on the N Umpqua regarding his food cart. He decided to chase the dollar throughout the Umpqua valley…
People who wanted to support his business and be regulars, decide his irregularities wasn’t worth it and he is no longer in business. A couple name changes didn’t help neither.

Huh. I’m about out of #6 streamer hooks. Time to order some Firehole #12s.
I'd put an order in for a few boxes if I knew what the hooks would look like when they got here. Hook sizes between brands are all over the map.

Are Firehole 6 the same as Daiichi 6/Ahrex 8/10?

Their sizes are definitely ’funky’ but really if the hooks are good and you know their sizes for what fits your purpose versus a defined size.

A point would be Stonedfish has some lines for sale with 2 being 6/7…not being one or the other; there’s more variance now, not saying good or bad, rather we just needs to be aware of the product and really what we need.

These lines are just following what has been discussed ad nauseaum (?) re rods for a single ‘true’ AFTM rating that doesn’t work for a lot of folks, incorrect rod rating or duff caster…I’m not going there 😀

Shit is all over the place as traditional standards are no longer true or what we thought of them.

Support your local fly shop to learn what works for you and go from there..

I tie ‘mids on fh 718 14 to 22 “s and I’m covered. Those hook sizes covers me for bobbering and their quality the best I’ve found imo.

Size matters, but just we just need to know it across vendors 😀

Yeah, which is why I love Ahrex’s publishing of hook dimensions in mm. Clear and upfront with no guesswork or learning after ordering.

Agree with both y'all on this one. Tough to support a business, no matter how great the owner's intentions or products if the longevity and consistency are iffy at best.

Luckily, I don't tie trout stuff anyway, so it's pretty much a non-issue. I'm completely set on companies I get hooks for all streamer stuff and carp stuff (matters a little less to me there than streamer hooks).

That’s the point. I have quite a lot, I bought a load of 36 hook boxes from Avid initially and then online 50 hook boxes from fh and then more from Avid. I can wait, just glad their hooks are soon to be available again.

Well....I supported them!..... : )
I'm such a sucker for more tying stuff.....
Shit me too, I’ve diachii 1460s, togens 2x nymphs barbed and not, Alec Jackson’s odd sizers, tons of scud hooks and now fh. With over 1000 mids and likely 1000 hooks. Totally get the Ahrex comments, I love their hooks for salty streamers. Nothing anymore though is constant otherwise we’d all be using Mustads

“My names Dave and I like buying hooks”
