My buddy moors his boat at Depoe Bay and takes me and my brother out for rockfish on the fly. The whole experience of being in the ocean and going out thru the narrows at Depoe Bay is a kick.
Just like last year, it was foggy, but not too windy, and the seas were manageable. I fished from the front of the boat and braced myself on the gunnel and the console. Pretty simple technique of throwing a heavy sink line with a baitfish pattern...counting it down and slow stripping. Most of our fishing was in 35-40 feet of water and the rockfish suspend in the water column.
We had hoped to throw poppers too but never found any fish on the surface. Anyways it was a fun adventure and we came home with lots of lovely fillets.
Between the three of us we prolly landed 40-50 fish. My brother was the high rod and got some nice fat bass.

I did well too and added a new species...
