Favorite Streamer Hooks

A buddy who doesn’t tie asked me to tie home a few streamers for river trout fishing.
I haven’t tied those types of flies in awhile so there are more options available now.
I used to just use Tiemco 5263’s which worked fine, but I want to look at some other options.
These will be single, front hook only streamers.
I’m thinking maybe Gami B10S’s or the Fulling Mills Streamer Stripper but I’m open to other suggestions.
Thanks

What size streamers?

I think there are lots of good hooks out there but my preference is b10s for sizes 1 or smaller. I also like the ahrex trout predator light (I think mode is tp605) in most sizes. I also like the ahrex ns172 if I’m making something articulated.

One thing I do really like is that ahrex website has true dimensions of their hooks on the website (albeit in metric) so at least I could compare to what I had previously or to make sure it was in line with what I wanted

Size 2

I'm in the Ahrex TP605 and TP610 camp. B10S are fine too, but I like a little longer of usable shank (within reason) on the Trout Predator's of the same overall length.

I use Fulling Mill Jig Force Long and Daiichi 2220.

The sizing on the Fulling Mill hooks is super weird; size 12 has a gap width of about size 8 and a shank length of roughly 2xl size 8 (ie. size 4). I had to order all the sizes, to figure out which hooks were actually the right size for my needs. I will probably switch to Firehole, for jig hooks.

I'd like to check out those Ahrex hooks, but they're 2x as expensive as the hooks I've been using (MFC 7050--ones that I've never had an issue with).

12 for ~$8 vs 25 for ~$8

Sizing is odd or off on all the Fulling Mill hooks or just the jig hook model you mentioned?

I have only used Jig Force and Jig Force Long. The regular Jig Force hooks are true to size and are great hooks.

Jig hooks tend to be a real shit show, in general. The hook gaps are often much larger than they should be and the brand doesn't specify that they are wide gap. They do this because they know some folks will use huge beads and, in combination with the shank bend, that reduces the effective hook gap.

FWIW, I have heard Firehole hooks have very consistent sizing.

I just like the gap to shenk length on the ahrex and I use them for trout and bass. Nothing wrong with those mfc or similar shapes hooks

I have a dumb question then. You state you use the Ahrex hooks for trout and bass, should I be concerned using the MFC hooks for bass?

pretty much echo's my opinion.

plus, I feel like the TP's are super sharp, hold their point, and are easy to sharpen (two things that don't always line up). Also, for me, I started using them for tiger muskies and absolutely loved them for that, so naturally had to experiment with them in smaller sizes and haven't looked back.

B10S I like because they're so damn sharp, hold their point well, but aren't nearly as easy to sharpen effectively should they become dull. Also, as noted earlier, I don't like the shank length to total length ratio as much either.

Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I like a pretty wide gap for most of my bass stuff (unless fishing the John Day and am just after numbers)....

i typed out a long rambling post that I had to edit cause it was too damn long. I agree with @clarkman re the hook points and sharpen ability. May be in my head but I just like them.

Long and short of my opinion: I would not be concerned about the mfc hooks and it’s mostly user preference.

I use daiichi 2460s or Gama B10s for most of my freshwater streamers. The B10s hooks hold up decent in saltwater assuming you rinse them... I'd use Ahrex TP light for my bigger bass and trout streamers and the standard TP for larger musky and pike flies. Ahrex hooks are expensive but I really like how they look and function. But they are expensive so for me they get specific uses and flies.
