fave bull rod set-up?

In all seriousness, I respect the big bull trout of the Metolius River. I fished there all the time in the mid-80s to early 90s (before Black Butte became known for porter). Beautiful rainbow trout and deep wild azure waters downstream of Wizard Falls. Landing fish in that current is tricky. Lake Billy Chinook provides lots of calories.

had thought my 6 wt Loomis with it's butt action a 7 wt in disguise...the two bulls I hooked up coupla days ago taught me differently, grabbed those White Zonkers and after a few bulldog head shakes off to the woodpile they went, rod deeply bent and Lamson reel a spinning...will pick up an 8 wt and mount it with one of my salmon Ross 6's and a sink tip

And @jaredoconnor, I don't like your math. There's no way your 10' 5wt has the same butt as my 9' 7wt. Look at us, talking about butts. :ROFLMAO:

It’s not uncommon to find 9ft rods that have butt diameters that are effectively at least one line weight larger/stronger. My old 8wt Redington Predator was an example of this.

In my experience, all 10ft+ rods have butt diameters that are 1-2 line weights heavier. If they didn’t, they would be noodles.

Haha! More butt talk.
I didn't realize you were talking about butt diameter. Sure, that can be the same, but that doesn't mean the rod will be as powerful or stiff, etc. When you said equivalent I was thinking overall power and flex, not actual diameter. Diameter, wall thickness, material & method all go into how a rod will behave.

Ok, no more butt talk. 🤫

More Butt Talk. I get exactly why you are looking for for specific make / model info as all things are not equal. I got my butt kicked on the 10' 3wt euro rod a few times list winter, so I'm like "I'll take the 6wt classic trout, should handle everything" today. Plus it's enjoyable to cast. But it's a "light" 6, not like my Sage. This one got in the current and wouldn't give up, even when I slack lined it, so ended up playing it onto it's side. My old Sage has more BUTT POWER, and has handled fish over 20" in the same hole and flow a lot better.

We all need more BUTT POWER. Especially as we age. :ROFLMAO:
