Fall Browns in Montana

All,

Wrapped up a 3 day trip to a river in Montana. Always is productive. Sometimes it takes a little figuring out, but once dialed in, one can usually clean up a bit. I will keep it concise and just do a brief overview.

Day 1:

Day 2: Started out with a nice chunky rainbow, but the day ended with very dark buck that was tucked under a tree that I was lucky enough to have aimed properly and not ended in the tree. 2nd strip and Bam.!!

Day 3 started out again with a chunky rainbow, but switched back over to some very healthy and colorful browns. Best one was at the literally at a run by the take out. Almost the last cast of the 3 day trip ended with this 23" toad as a new personal best for this river...!!

The weather cooperated and there was little to no wind. Chilly in the morning, but mild in the afternoon.

Does anybody else have a last cast or last 10 minute of a trip where you may have landed the nicest fish..? Have faith and never give it up......at some point you will be given the chance.......this is where preparation meets opportunity.

Yes, I was fishing a lake in Idaho. It was the last day of a 4-day trip. We were heading to the boat launch as it was starting to get dark. Just before the launch, my buddy stopped the boat and suggested I give this spot a try. First cast...BAM! I caught a nice 17" brook trout that gave me the best fight of the trip.

I luv fishing late fall for fish coming out of the larger rivers into the tributaries. Been doing it for decades in Montana. Best time ever.

Those are some very nice fish for sure!

I have missed the last few years for various reasons. Next fall, come hell or high water, I will be there again.

Thank you for instilling/rekindling the memories of why Montana is so special in the fall.
