NFR EV's?

I see a fair number of Teslas every day, and there are quite a few in my suburb. I don't think I can recall seeing any of them hotrodding around.

In fact I think they represent a market that domestic auto manufacturers have largely abandoned...the comfortable, well appointed, powerful but generally sedately driven sedan. Great road vehicles.

Yes, but I’ll still take a throaty V8.

Yup. Give me the old, creaky, smelly, classic V8 Mustang. It does nothing better than the Mach E, except make my willy tingle.

Last year was walking though a parking lot and suddenly heard brakes...gal had stopped her EV 5' from me, phone to her ear. Never heard it coming.

Maybe that's because no one is dumb enough to race one, a Plaid anyway:

Although my next car (?, not the stupid Bugatti) is faster...

Do responsible functional adults race cars on public roads?
Ever been to the Kent Valley South of SouthCenter on a warm, dry summer evening? The races are even shown on national TV.

Do not get me started about Burien in late 60's and early 70's. The stories would take pages to cover just a few. LOL...

It was a rhetorical question.

Why I did not address ' responsible functional adult'. Not going down that rabbit hole..

Vans are good for a lot of things, they may not be cool, but are practical...

Where have you been? In Bham vans are so common now I wonder what people are thinking. Like honestly, what are they thinking, I have done everything around here in a 2 wheel drive hatchback with snow tires. Many of these vans get terrible mileage and how often can people actually find the time to sleep in them? I don’t get it just like I don’t get having a tent permanently attached to the top of your vehicle that will just turn into an expensive chunk of mold in a few years in the PNW.

As far as kids in vehicle and space, I have something to say about that. For the first few years it can be a real PIA for tall folks like myself. These extra safe and extra giant reverse facing car seats pretty much push whatever is in front of them all the way forward. So I am always completely cramped if sitting in front of one. The solution is that my shorter wife sits in front of the boy and I drive but then I always drive on long road trips. That is fine with me but it’s not ideal.

Nothing new as this idea has been around for awhile and test studies done, but it looks like it has come up again.

My recollection (which isn't always perfect) is that pay per mile would calculate regular tax for upkeep of roads, but would still be less expensive than the gas tax which includes extra amounts to be directed towards mitigating climate change.

As an EV driver, I have no problem helping pay for the roads I drive on. I mean, I hate actually paying money for anything... but I'd rather us have good roads than the alternative.

For all the faults of the gas tax, like making gas stations be tax collectors for the state, it has been a pretty effective and fair way of apportioning the cost of roads to users. Heavy vehicles that cause more road wear and tear tend to use more gas and thereby pay more in taxes than lighter fuel efficient vehicles. How does pay per mile work when I drive out of state? And how does it collect money from out-of-state vehicles being driven on WA roads? Maybe it would make more sense to just keep the gas tax and develop an alternative taxing method for EVs. But following logic pathways can be so difficult . . .

I'm the glass is half empty guy: Does anyone truly believe the state is going to repeal the gas tax if/when they implement the pay per mile tax? Roll another one.
