Eurasian collared doves

Where I live, they are easy to identify this time of year because the Mourning Doves have all migrated. I saw two or three sizeable flocks last week but boy are they were spooky. I would never have never been able to get in shotgun range, at least not where they were located when I saw them.

In southwest Washington I can’t remember ever seeing doves as large as the rock pigeons. The band tailed pigeons were only here in summer to late fall, and gone by now.
The native mourning doves are far more common on the east side and smaller. They mostly move south after October but it appears some stay year round.
We have these invasive doves here right now.

Good point Greg, but for me, the difference is obvious.
I figured most reading the thread are probably aware, but others may not be.

I don’t know if there’s still an open season on the Bandtails, but I know there used to be one. We used to see them at our feeders occasionally and they would devour the hulled sunflower seeds… I’d bet they’re pretty tasty!

Sorry, as a birder, there is no way you could confuse these birds with a band tailed pigeon. Although, you can hunt band taileds. If you don’t know what you are shooting at, don’t pull the trigger.
