Went out to Fall City this morning, there are still some that meet up Saturdays there..

Next weekend, Saturday, the 25th, Emerald Waters is hosting a spey event on the river in the morning. I saw Todd Sosmel, a friend of mine, whose Scandi line he developed.. which is awesome..

Anyway, if you're interested in spey or a tune up or want to try new rods and gear come on by! I was there last year and their was a great turnout.

I'll be there! Hope to see you! To be clear, I'm not affiliated with this in anyway.. just a fan!

Bill

Bill was there longer than me, but:

I fished the Tolt for a few hours, then hit Fall City when I got sick of ice in the guides.

Nám Ren 7127-4 is a cool all-year-all-Washington Spey Rod. Would do great on the Rogue or Deschutes, but would happily flex to the OP (especially the Sol Duc) or Cascade rivers. Lightweight, moderate action, but very quick recovery. Thinking I might need one in the near future.

The PNW Spey Lines are super long and cool, the 525 feels made for my Burkie 7134, and the extra rear taper bit is intriguing, but I predominantly use Skagit heads. Currently they’re only sold through EWA, who is out of stock on the lines I’d want anyway.

Chatted with @flybill a while, and learned just how different trout spey casting is from standard. I almost bought an OPST MS trout Spey rod, but then made the mistake of talking with Gary the Burkie rep about their trout Spey rods. Tested theirs and ordered one (12’5” 5wt).

Learned Lamson is coming out with an HD (full cage) Liquid in a few months.

Ran into an old friend I thought was still living in Florida, chatted a bit.

Jumped a cutthroat with a yarn fly.

Talked to a few reps, made some new friends and lined up some potential gigs, and learned that there are probably going to be a couple of somewhat surprising fly fishing company mergers/buyouts this year.

Decided to leave before I ordered another Burkie (9119), gave @flybill a couple cigars, answered a bunch of questions about my rod vault, and left to fish the Tolt again.

That’s about all I remember. @flybill , anything I missed?

Good seeing you Jake! Let's fish and/or drink soon.. cheers my friend!!

Will post pictures later, probably this evening.. If I feel like it!

Oh, forgot to mention that Nám is coming out with a 6-piece spey rod line this spring/early summer.

Their 5 piece is pretty cool and you don’t really notice the extra ferrule, so the 6 stands to be an interesting option for those not flying Alaska Air or who are taking bush planes.

Have the reviews on my desk ASAP.

NAM already have 6 piece Epic Waters spey rods. It will be great to see new travel spey.
It’s supposed to be a mid-price-point rod, so especially interesting.

I didn’t realize they had an existing 6-piece series as well—very cool! They only had their classic and ren models today.

Sick rod! Paired with my buddy Todd's line.. it's a killa stick! Seriously! Fist pump!! 😄

So all I have to say is if you weren't there you missed the fun and opportunity to check out some really cool shit!

I hung out with Todd Sosmell most of the day and his business partner who owns a shop in Bosie and is an FFF guru like Todd. They have a great line, a long scandi, and got it dialed in my 12'7" Buelah! It's a great line that needs to be experienced, meaning go cast it..

I'm going to get a 575 grain line for my rod. It comes in 300 to 650 grains and the head length lengthens as the line get's heavier. It has a fantastic rear taper (black line) and it's hard to describe. It can turn over most flies, not heavy and big shit though. Perfect for me and my casting style. I let 5 guys cast my rod with the 525 grain, and everyone loved it. It was designed on Winston rods, which Todd has been on the pro staff for 15 years or so and should be on you radar now with my review.. I hope.

NOM was next to us, a Swedish company with Dax and Leslie in the PNW. I want a sick green Hardy style reel for my Buelah, but couldn't pull the trigger today.. if I can't get the green black will do.. I think I got a picture, so will post, but it was out of my price range at the moment ($725).

Hung out with the Costa Del Ray sunglasses rep and ended up with a new pair of Costa's.. Saw so many friends, old and new, including Jake. Jake and I are fishing tomorrow.. don't ask where.. or at least ask Jake.. I'm old and can't recall.. haha, not LOL!

Didn't get through all of the booths, but talked with people from almost all of them. Will check out the Echo spey rods in a few months, if not sooner.

Oh yeah, Luis San Diego was there and we caught up, which was great! Drank whiskey, killed my Angel's Envy something good. Shared with many, pull and pass.. drinks off of the bottle! Saw his bad assed truck, talked about his jet boats (yeah, I said boats) and talked about fishing together. He's also the new CND rep.. IYKYK! I have the 14'3" Solstice I built with Ron Torda years ago.. love it.

Food was great, a food truck, really a mobile kitchen made some great stuff.. I was fine with my cigar and whiskey, water and a Rainer beer!

It was cold, but sunny the whole day. Everything wrapped up about 3pm.

In summary, a GREAT event hosted my Emerald Waters!
=============================================
Yesterday at Avid and Emerald Waters was great, although the traffic sucked.. no surprise there. Met so many cool dudes, all different levels, discussed French wines and talked about trips and crazy fishing shit that happened. Taught new students and they might work with me or others there.

Support you local shops, it really does make a difference.

PM me with specifics and I'll post some sites on the products I loved, but really just reach out to the shop and visit if you have time or are close by.

Cheers!

The 11'7" 8WT Epic waters was a beast! Actually I loved all the Nam rods, but that's the one that I would buy right now to fill the hole in my lineup and I was casting nearly as far with it as I did with much longer sticks. Other fave was the 7127 Burkie, just a sweet and effortless feel to it.
