Eleuthera, Bahamas

Fishues

Smolt
Heading to Nassau for the holidays with the wife and in-laws but am sneaking away for 4 days just before Xmas to Eleuthera. I managed to book a guide for a day and a half and then will be DIY the rest of the time. I’ve done a little bit of DIY bone fishing in the Yucatán area with moderate success but this will be my first serious trip. I know it’s not the best time of year but it’s a family vacation that I’m able to sneak away for 4 days and fish hard.
Just wondering if anyone here has any words of advice or has been to Eleuthera and might be able to steer me in the right direction. Luckily
my first day will be guided so I’ll pick their brain. I’ll be staying in Gregory Town and hopefully I’ll be mobile ( still trying to nail down the rental). I have a copy of Rod Hamilton’s “ Do it Yourself Bonefishing” and have looked up the tides for the time I’ll be there. If anyone would like to throw me a bone (fish) 😂it would be greatly appreciated! Feel free to DM if you don’t want to hot spot. Thanks in advance 👍🏼

Spent 3 days there several years ago as a side trip to a splash-and-giggle family vacay in Nassau.

Can't help much with advice for bones on Eleuthera since I didn't see one the entire time on the island. Part of that was where we were staying in a cabin on the Atlantic side near Rock Harbor in the South of the island. The one day guided in Savannah Sound was a mixed fishing/snorkeling trip with my kids. Didn't see any bones, but did catch a cuda out on the reef. What sticks with me was how beautiful, and deserted, the beaches were on the Atlantic side. We spent the other two days snorkeling/fishing/beach combing. That was my introduction to reef fish and how tough they can be to catch on flies.

The one piece of advice I will offer is don't leave the fly rod behind if you spend any time on Grand Providence. I figured my fishing was done when we met up with the rest of the family in Nassau, but ended up catching a 5# bone DIY on a public beach just a block away from the house we rented.
