echo Boost blue or 84B

Hi, i’m looking to upgrade my redington wrangler 8wt rod with a faster action rod in the 300$ range. I’m looking at the echo 84b and the boost blue but I can’t decide which is better for my uses. No local shops carry them so I’m a little stuck not able to try either. I’m wondering if you have any suggestions, I use my current 8wt setup primarily for bass, pike, and salmon off the beaches throwing Titan taper and OBS intermediate. I doubt I would be disappointed with either but would love some input.

I don't have either of those rods but I bet you are going to get some good answers!

I love both. If you are mostly fishing beaches, the Boost gets the extra points. It'll be a bit better for distance. For fishing out of a boat, or doing shorter more accurate work, then the Eight Four is the one.

I just tried out my 6wt 84b for the first time last night with an Arctic Silver Compact floating line. First impressions are "17/10 would recommend"

Perhaps casting it back-to-back with my 1993 St. Croix Legend tainted the experience for the better but it felt so light and precise and nimble and accurate and got all the distance I wanted from my little canoe with ease.

I’ve got a Boost Blue 6wt and a 84B 7wt so not apples to apples. I can definitely get a bit more distance out of the Boost but it’s really close. I do like the grip on the Boost a little better.

I think Evan nailed. I think the 84B is a better choice off a boat with shorter casts. If trying to bomb flies off the beach/shore, the Boost will be the winner. But, neither will disappoint

I’ve narrowed down my 8wt search with some googling lol and saw that the axiom 2x and redington predator were both same price as the boost blue. 😅 Any experiences with those? might also have to move this back to the main forum too.

I had a Predator 696 and much prefer the Boost Blue 690. The extra length had zero advantages.

If you're interested in a Redington Crux 890 I've got one in the classifieds.
