Eastside egg hatch

It was raining in Portland when I left just before sunrise. The weather started to clear just about the time I turned south and the sun broke through shortly after I hit the river.

I was hoping for some dry fly action around midday but the lack of cloud cover kept the bwo hatch to just a smattering of bugs here and there. I suppose I’d have to enjoy the sunshine.

Hooked a few fish on a recently tied white streamer until one broke me off. That must have been the magic fly because the fishing turned off afterwards. Changed locations and the W picked up considerably. I switched to an indicator rig as that was the only way I could get a cast off between gusts. Decided to check on the egg hatch and that’s when things picked up. The fish seemed keyed in and I landed over a dozen and lost a few more in about 45 minutes including one uncharacteristically acrobatic whitefish.

The sign of a successful day.
