Early Signs of Spring

Heard the frogs a lot in February. Ever since the snow, no frogs croaking at all. Miss the frog's symphony. Hope it comes back soon...
 
Daffodils are blooming in the San Juans. For me, this signals the start of the pre-spawn season for Western Washington Largemouth Bass. This is the time of year that the big females get HUNGRY,.... as if they were lined up outside an "all you can eat" buffet. In a few weeks the nests will be built and the game will change. But for now the daffodils tell me...that the female Bass are ready to hit the buffet. Typically 5 or 10 feet deeper than the nesting sites.

Here in NW Montana elevation 2100' wife's tulips, crocus, snow drops & peonies are showing themselves. Also have a woodpecker swinging by every morning @ dawn to hammer on our metal pipes. Tom turkeys are gobbling & strutting around, small skeens of geese honking overhead.

Backyard birds def getting more active, very mild winter here, think the local ski slope was only open a few days all winter. Lawn is slowly getting greener over the yellow dormant winter look.

Afraid after we have our beautiful spring it's going to be a long smoking hot fire season.
