Dry side invasives

While I prefer backpacking every weekend during the summer, with the kiddo, we need to space it out as to not burn her out and have her lose interest. So we saw there was a cancellation on a cheap-ish ($43 /night) cabin at State Park on a river on the East Side of the mountains. It was going to be 100+ but it was on the river and the cabin had A/C so how could you say no 🤷‍♂️ ?

We drove out after work Friday and immediately went down to the water. My kid threw rocks, and I immediately started getting into some smallies. They're not big (all between 10-12" with some smaller) but they put a good bend in my 6wt and wouldn't give up. We we're then greeted with some beautiful desert alpenglow (is that a thing?).

Saturday looked a lot like this: Kid flopping around in a tube with me fishing within eye sight. When I got to hot, I'd mosy on down and we'd jump in the tubes and float down. Fishing was never taken seriously (as according to Old Man, it never should ;) ). Fish we're caught, let's say, less than 100 but more than beers drank. So I'd call it a win and a great weekend. Next weekend, I'm off without the kiddo and doing a ~30 mile hike, then meeting back up on the same river, just further upstream.
