Dragonfly Ovipositing

Western Washington lakes are warming up and fishing is very good.

Went out today to a local Western Washington lake. Wind was tolerable - about 7mph. So enough ripple to make it productive. Trout are healthy and gaining lots of weight. Lots of jumpers/leapers whether on a hook or not.

Lots and lots of dragonflies and damsel flies out now. Numerous colors too. Dang they are pretty. Had three land on my rod at once. While trolling saw a number of dragonflies ovipositing into the water. I saw several dragonflies laying/releasing their eggs near some lily pads ---> until I didn't. Watched one and then a splash. She was no more. A second dragonfly took up the position until another splash. She was no more. Then a third dragonfly. Yup you guessed it - disappeared from sight. There will be fewer dragonflies next year - that is for sure.

For years I have seen dragonflies ovipositing all the time on the lake. But I have never seen bass splash like that going after dragonflies. Quick, accurate and very successful. Something special I will remember for a long time.
I once experienced a bass tracking my damslefly in the air and hitting it just before it touched down. I was able to see it wake under the surface for about 5-6ft before it burst out. One of my all time favorite eats.
