Dragonfly On Hat?

WonderBrad

Steelhead
Has anyone seen this? Dragonfly mounted on a wire with clip. The idea is that it deters all sorts of insect pests...anecdotal evidence yes, scientific evidence, well I have not found any...

I would not be foolish enough buy it, but I might tie up a foam dragonfly and mount it to my fishing hat...

Seems like a good way to get smacked in the head by a deranged, pot-bellied, Dragonfly chasing, Largemouth Bass. I've seen big bass going crazy trying to catch them as they made egg-laying runs over the water.

My trick for deer flies relies on their tendency to land on the highest part of you. I'll hold one hand palm down above my head as bait. They land on the back of that hand and get smacked.

Two works better, like deely boppers.

When I ran combine back in the 60's in NE Montana, we'd tie a rag to a stick and place it so the "flag" was well above our heads. That would occupy the abundant flies & flying ants.

Deer flies can take a chunk out of a person (ask me how I know). I find their attack behavior, uh, distracting (to say the least). I spent a good part of yesterday on a Central Washington lake where the damn deer flies love me. I carry a fly swatter in my pram. My scorecard yesterday was nine trout to the net and three deer flies smashed beyond recognition. I call that a pretty good day (missed the one that bit my foot when I was loading the boat back onto the trailer).

Chumming with Deer flies… never thought of that, hmmm!

This was not just a frivolous post. I appreciate the stories of being attacked by various insect pests and what to do about it. I personally despise yellow jackets and hornets the most...to the point of near phobia. Takes me off my fishing game immediately...
