Dozens of Carp at a lake near Spokane

Again I will thank all you folks for clueing me in. I was pleased to be able to see the bottom at about eight feet deep at this lake. This clear water may not be the norm (I don't know). So ..I am surmising ....fish the lake when the water is clear enough to actually see the "slurp" in order to set the hook at the ideal moment. Stealthy as possible. Get the fly right up his nose in knee deep water.??................... Carp fly fishing Eastern Washington? Who knew?
 
Perhaps I could "anchor" my Kayak with the sunlight just right to "sight fish" and patiently wait for the fish (that I just spooked) to chill out and resume feeding..... and then have the perfect opportunity to put a woolly worm right in the nose of the biggest one? Please remember the lake I would be fishing is LOADED with carp. Stalking these fish is going to be very tricky, but using the "deer stand method" may be easier to get initial results. As always , any input or guidance is very much appreciated, Jim

I started hooking more carp when I started strip-setting whenever a fish gave me any excuse. I wanna believe they’re eating it, even if it makes me a little jumpy.

This is the way.

Last week, @mcswny watched me strip set and miss a fish. I cast right back to him, he slurped again, I waited, I set, and he was there that time.

I'd rather set and miss it vs waiting for them to hook themselves.
 
I’ve never intentionally fished for them…the only one I hooked was when I was a kid on a shad dart in the Delaware river…I think I’d like to try fishing for them

They are challenging but there's also a mindset that carp are trash fish. Earlier this week I was in the Desert Fly Angler visiting with Darc. He had a long time customer in who pooh poohs carp fishing regardless of our testimonials.

IMHO.... ugly ass fish, nothing I would ever eat, no teeth, like a goldfish, slurps a fly, bottom feeding, rubber lip having son of a bitch of a fish ..and yet so compelling.
 
I was stationed in Japan when in the Navy, my wife is Japanese. I've spent a lot of time in Japan since 1969 when I first flew into the country. I've grown very fond of Koi so I think of our carp as Koi and then they're not quite so ugly (but I hear you). They do grow on you!

They are trash fish. Not worth anyone's time fishing for them. No fun at all. Stick to trout, way more rewarding and much prettier. ;)
 
Consider a Mahi Mahi with the intense colors it comes out of the water with. Now think of the carp. What fish has more beauty? Personally I can not answer that question. Carp, to me, have an inner beauty that is often overlooked....creatures without teeth hold a special place in my heart.
