I have had Glaucoma for many years and manage it with eye drops and laser surgeries. That said, little did I know that that the heat and smoke from burning leaves along with Glaucoma can raise proper hell in your eyes! Extreme pain/burning and hopefully, only temporary, vision loss. Some of the eye drops already cause a bit of burning sensation that usually diminishes quickly. "Not this time"! While some of us learn the hard way we can at least tell others "don't do this"!

Sorry @Flymph for the flare up from smoke from burning leaves. Ephrata banned leaf burning a few decades ago and those of us with respiratory issues are grateful. The city has free leaf pickup; my wife and I rake leaves, bag them and leave the bags for the city to pick up.

I believe flowers are known to be more helpful than the leaves in that context.
