I prefer the Robin Hood approach.

A friend of mine is a young man just starting his career. He is involved in the science side of it at WDFW. He is doing amazing work. Things like proving to his superiors that there are brook trout in mainstem S rivers...on his own time. Doing all sorts of salmon DNA tracing. I see the resistance he is met with and just shake my head.
The enforcement issue is big for me too. Kills me that I never see any enforcement.
Having said all that...one of my 2024 goals is to write my state reps and senators more letters. I will try to influence WDFW from outside their organization. I'm generally an optimist btw.
Hats off to all those that work with them and for them. I know it's not always easy and I applaud & appreciate your efforts.
Good poll Shawn. Even if it's not all good news.

I actually showed him your pics!
Several years ago my buddy and I were drifting down the big "C" (east of the Cascades) when Keith hooked and landed a big brook trout. We should have eaten it.#monsterbrookieseatdryflies
Now we wait for WDFW to jump in and claim credit for this wonderful Brook Trout fishery.
Nice Brookie, fry'em up mmmmmmm good
Good morning Dustin, and nope not from me. This was asked just so I could see and understand others views. As a retired corporate business analyst, I just wanted to see what others think and how they view this topic.I used to. At this point why bother? The commission is an actual and literal joke. The management structure as a system is doomed to fail almost by design (speaking salmon steelhead stuff). The execution of this system is like planning for a C minus to barely pass a class and getting an F on every test and failing miserably but not preparing or studying in any different manner. You don't even plan for a better grade. You just repeat the same failed prefectures and blindly hope. Forgive me for feeling like I would have little to contribute to an organisation full up on so much effective policy action.
I honestly think at this point the feds need to step in and finish the job. At least it would be different. I'll try different and terribly bad over the same failed approaches by the same failed agency at this point. How could we screw it up more?
Now my rant is complete you may begin chastising me about how my time could be better spent e nailing legislators and restoring habitat on a ditch outside of town that hasn't seen so much as a sculpin in a century. I can take it. Flame me with hope to quiet my bad attitude. Prove me wrong headed and restore my fury for good. Bring me back from the dark side.
Just emailed some comments this morning. The Draft is worded in such a manner that there are few if any real specifics. Very general in scope. However I was able to tease out something that I thought needed to be addressed. Basically - save some fish for us bankies on the river to catch. Not everybody can afford a bay boat. Here is an example and chance to provide input. You can read the draft proposal and provide input.

THANK YOU and Congratulations! Thanks for those who get/stay involved. Even though it’s disheartening sometimes I think it’s super important to stay informed and stay involved.
Among other things I just got appointed to the Columbia River Recreational Fisheries Advisory Group.
And the folks at O.D.F.W. that do care can only keep their heads down , put in their 20 years or so and then collect their P.E.R.S. Making waves or bringing up good ideas is allways a bad idea. Remember that no good deed goes unpunished.Good morning Dustin, and nope not from me. This was asked just so I could see and understand others views. As a retired corporate business analyst, I just wanted to see what others think and how they view this topic.
Dealing with any government agency or elected officials reminds me very much of corporate life. Someone at the top (Pres.) has an agenda, direction, and/or goal, they (Senior Mgr) get pressure from others to do something, they (Super) have teams to try achieve that goal, the team (Staff) members are asked how to achieve the goal and to preform the tasks required even if they don't agree with the goal. The team is asked how to make the goal achievable, team members provide input, then the team leader and managers have to make a decision on the direction to achieve the goal that the top person has set. And everywhere up and down the chain those asked for input are frustrated because maybe their input wasn't accepted and they still have to follow what the top person set for direction.
My input to the entire team structure always was, you might not get the top agenda, direction, and/or goal changed but you can change the way your portion of the task is completed. Change what you have control over. Also, remember everybody on the team will have a different opinion on how to achieve the task, and just because as a team you were all asked for input didn't many all input will be accepted.
Thanks for providing your comments! Rants accepted.
Thanks Shawn! In my initial reading of the 2024- 2028 North of Falcon policy document @ northoffalconfwcpolicy2024-28@publicinput.com , it appears there are a lot of things that I like as primarily a coastal stream & PS beach trout and salmon - C&R fly angler stakeholder. I'll read through it a few more times and make some notes before I submit my comments. Here is an example and chance to provide input. You can read the draft proposal and provide input.
